The iCarpool app uses a share-the-expense carpool model. The app charges a fee of $0.30 per mile for riders and reimburses drivers at $0.24 per mile. There’s no surge pricing and the fee doesn’t change because of peak traffic, the route or time taken for the trip.
To calculate the rider’s cost, we multiply the trip distance with $0.30 and apply promotional offers, subsidies, etc. Say for example, if the distance between the rider’s pickup location and drop-off location is 10 miles, the rider’s account will be charged between $2.25 to $3.00 depending on whether the rider qualifies for any promotional offers or subsidies. There is a minimum fee of $1.50 which is used for trips up to 5 miles. The table below shows the fee for trips up to 15 miles. Longer trips will be charged appropriately using the same calculation, however there is a cap of $10 per trip for the rider cost and $8 for driver reimbursement.
